The Jersey Police Authority has published its Annual Report of the States of Jersey Police, commending the dedication of the police, whilst highlighting funding and resourcing concerns.
“The report reaffirms our commitment to providing independent oversight of the States of Jersey Police. It ensures that policing services remain accountable, responsive, and aligned with the needs of our community.
In this report, we outline how we have worked constructively with the Chief Officer and senior leadership team to scrutinise operational performance, workforce wellbeing, and resource deployment. We also reflect on the evolving demands facing the organisation and the importance of ensuring policing remains responsive to those challenges.
While I commend the professionalism and dedication of our police officers and staff, the Authority remains concerned about the financial pressures facing the service. There is a widening gap between what the public expects, and the resources made available. Without sustainable funding, we risk undermining the service’s ability to respond, innovate, and protect the well-being of its workforce.
We urge the Government to ensure future decisions around policing budgets are informed by evidence, risk, and operational reality. A resilient and well-supported police service is vital for maintaining community confidence and the long-term safety of our Island.
